Milla Jovovich – Family, Education, and Early Beginnings
Milla Jovovich’s full name is Milica Bogdanovna Jovovich. She was born on December 17, 1975, in Kiev, Soviet Ukraine. Her mother is Soviet Russian actress Galina Loginova. Her father is Serbian doctor Bogdan Jovovich.
In 1980, Milla’s family left Soviet Union and moved to London. Not long after, they moved to Sacramento, California. Seven months later, they finally settled in Los Angeles. Her parents divorced shortly after settling in LA.
While in Los Angeles, her mother tried getting acting jobs, but found little success due to language barriers. Galina ended up cleaning houses to earn money. She also served as cook and housekeeper for director Brian de Palma.
Milla’s father was imprisoned due to his involvement in health insurance fraud. Despite being given a 20-year sentence in 1994, he only served five years.
Jovovich went to Los Angeles public schools and became fluent in English within three months. She was teased because of her Russian roots.
