It is set in a dystopian future where humans are trapped in the simulated reality, the Matrix, while their bodies are used by machines as an energy source.
2. Shutter Island
Shutter Island, just like Inception, also stars Leonardo DiCaprio. The 2010 movie is one that will also make you wonder which of the scenes are “real” or not, at least in the world of the characters.
Leonardo DiCaprio plays the role of U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels. The film follows him and his partner, Chuck Aule, as they try to solve the disappearance of a patient in Ashecliffe Hospital, an institution for the criminally insane on Shutter Island.
The question is, who is really insane?
3. Fight Club
Released in 1999, Fight Club is based on the novel of the same name. It stars Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter, Jared Leto, and Meat Loaf Aday.
The film follows the unnamed Narrator (Edward Norton) as he, together with new friend Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), forms the Fight Club. The Fight Club eventually becomes an anti-corporate and anti-materialist organization, allowing the Narrator to let go of his inhibitions.
Set in the near future, Interstellar, led by Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, takes you in a journey through space and time—quite literally.
The 2014 film tells the story of scientists and engineers who worked together to find a new Earth-like planet where humans can relocate as Earth begins to be barren.
5. The Adjustment Bureau
The 2011 film, The Adjustment Bureau stars Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. The film is about defying Fate itself to be with the person you love.
6. The Machinist
Starring Christian Bale, The Machinist (2004) follows the story of Trevor Reznik. He is a machinist with severe insomnia who has not slept for months.
The result? Hallucinations that even the audience will find difficult to separate from reality.
7. The Thirteenth Floor
Fantasy-thriller The Thirteenth Floor is not exactly what you might think it would be. The 1999 neo-noir sci-fi film was loosely based on the 1964 novel, Simulacron-3.
The film’s plot is a smart mix of reality and virtual simulation, exploring the idea of computer-simulated universes
Memento is a 2000 neo-noir psychological thriller that stars Guy Pearce. The film follows the story of Leonard Shelby, who is trying to find who murdered and raped his wife.
The problem is, he suffers from a rare form of amnesia that makes him forget everything that happened 15 minutes ago.
9. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Another sci-fi film, but this one will give you a break from all the action.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind tells the story of Joel and Clementine. The two fell in love after a train journey, without knowing that they have already been in a relationship before that they chose to forget through a scientific procedure.
This 2004 film stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet.
10. Source Code
Last on our list of 10 movies like Inception is Source Code. Released in 2011, the film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, and Vera Farmiga.
The film revolves around how Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) tries to get the identity of a bomber by experiencing the last few minutes in the life of one of the commuters who died in the bombed train.
